Hello Fishermen...

As Host of this website, I have a Good Report regarding the Chautauqua Lake Fish Hatchery:

Chautauqua Lake Fish Hatchery located about a 1/2 mile away from We Wan Chu Cottages raises Walleyes and Muskies for stocking in Chautauqua Lake as well as creeks and other lakes in New York State.

Walleyes Stocked in Chautauqua Lake:

2009: 204,200 Walleyes stocked = 1.5" - 1.75"

2010: 146,800 Walleyes stocked = 1.5" - 1.75"

2011: 130,000 Walleyes stocked = 1.75"

Muskies Stocked in Chautauqua Lake for 2011:
Good Harvest, Good Year of Muskies.

20,310 Muskies stocked = 8.5" - 9" in length
17,260 Muskies stocked = 2" in length

We all know that small fish get probably eaten by a lot of the bigger fish in Chautauqua Lake, but with the State Budget as in every State's case, is constantly being cut, we are Thankful for all of these fish. I was told by the Fish Hatchery Staff, that Chautauqua Lake may not be getting as many if any more Walleyes for a few years, but the State has been saying this for some time, so if any of you reading this are from NYS, then perhaps a letter or an e-mail to Your State Reps asking for continued Walleye Stocking for Chautauqua Lake might help.

Fishing is Strong for Chautauqua Lake in Pan, Bass & Musky Fishing. Walleye is tough, but then again, a Fishermen can access the Lake much easier and safer then trying to access a larger Lake like Lake Erie, thus a heavier fishing pressure put onto the Walleye. Time will tell, but we have seen more Walleyes caught in 2011 then we have seen in years past. Thank God...

Wishing Everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy & Healthy New Year.... Peter

Hello Fishermen...

I wish more folks would write and help everyone know where they are catching fish... Be it Bass, Walleye, Musky or Pan Fish... I heard today, that two of our Cottages had caught lots of Perch, which is what they came for... They couldn't find them, only small ones... Then their three boats went separate ways and as soon as one of them got on the big Perch, they all converged... and they caught 12.25 inches, all day long... Nice...

Last week Ralph and his / my friends fishing with him caught and released a number of Muskies... Nice... and as Always, Nice seeing All of My Friends...

I heard, over the Summer, that Fishermen trolling for Muskies with Big Plugs slowed down to 1.5 to 2.5 M.P.H. and they caught 28" - 31" Walleyes when they trolled slower... Nice...

I can't hope to tell everyone where they are until I see them here when renting a Boat or a Cottage... Obviously, I try to provide the Fishing Service with this website and haven't been able to Report since Spring because we have, Thankfully been Busy...

It is tough Fishing the last week or two of August, (especially with this Year's Big Algae Bloom...) or the first week of September... But Fishing is Strong now, with the cooling waters, the Fish are Turning On...

Last weekend, "The X-Series" held their Championship Finale here on Chautauqua Lake, for their umpteenth year in a Row... They aren't Fishing here because it is Bad Fishing... They are holding their, Thankfully so, Championship of their Series, here on Chautauqua Lake because Bass Fishing, is Strong...

Walleye has been Slow for some time now... It is because the Fish are so heavily pressured... as is the Bass & Musky, but those two Spices are, for the most part, Released...

We Thank You'all for coming to Chautauqua Lake and Driving the Economy... Because We like You would always Welcome this Economic Help.... So Good Fishing to You'all and if I hear anything New, I’ll be Backkkkkk...

Have a Great Day & Week... Peter

Had a great week fishing Musky out in front of We Wan Chu. Weather blew us off the lake a couple of days but caught 4 beautiful Musky. Caught 2 on Legend Perchbaits and 2 on Wiley Killers trolled at 3.9 mph. The Perchbaits were trolled 4 & 5 colors down and the Wiley's down 20' on downriggers.

June 2 we started late morning, wind was 15-20 mph, we basically trolled the weed line along the west side, staying in the calmest water; Marked the majority of fish 13 FOW & shallower; running small crankbaits & crawler rigs; As the wind slowed up we checked deeper water & did not mark many fish out to 35 FOW;
June 3 we fished from 7am to 3 pm; all total we caught 2 Walleyes, 1 @ 4 Lb & 1 short @ 16 in; we did manage to keep 45 perch and threw back many more (less than 8 inch) Water temp was 68-70 degrees @ surface.

Fished six days before and over Memorial weekend for bass. The water temp was 64-68 degrees. The lake is flooded. There is water is people's houses and over many of the docks. Water is as dirty as I've seen it in May. Weeds are behind schedule because of the water color and level. To put in in perspective, we were dragging crankbaits through the cribs and not pulling up many weeds. Caught a lot of big largemouth and some nice smallies. This place needs dry weather desperately. It will be interesting to see how all this affects bass season and the topwater bite. I'll be back in mid June.

Fishing off shore by the boat ramp near fishery this week started at about 11 in the morning kept reeling in small mouth bass one after another til about 4 when it dropped off, also caught a few nice size perch, sunfish and even a catfish. Most entertaining part of the trip was seeing the carp spawning, they were splashing us as we were fishing, amazing to see such large fish up close.

the last 3 memorial days on chautauqua, the air temp was well into the 90s a few times and 3-4 years ago it was over 100 for 2 days. no idea about water temp but smaller lakes in my area are still in the 50s so largemouth havent even started spawning where as this time last year they were already done. jiggin crawfish type jigs and crankbaits work best on points for smallies, but again- given the temp they could be on beds. Ive been goin there for almost 10 years now on memorial day and labor day and honestly i catch more walleye on smallmouth gear than i do trolling/drifting bottom spinners and other walleye specific methods. and same with muskys. i try to dedicate at least one whole day to chasing musky, and ill give up, put a deep diving crankbait on for bass and somehow manage to catch a musky. Ill be staying in A10 with a few friends anyone wants to stop over and talk fishing your more than welcome.

I would go to Smithboys boat shop. They have excellent maps of the lake that will show rocky areas. Fish those areas anywhere on the lake and you are sure to find smallmouth this time of the year. Stick with shallow crank baits and green tubes. You won't catch numbers as this is the spawn. But you will see some big fish.

Fishing for smallmouths this time of year id have to say theyre gunna be on their spawning beds. But you will probably run into more largemouth as theyre are many more in the lake. If you can find any area that is rocky and shallow id say there would be more smallies there than largemouth. I think midway shoreline would be your best bet. Let me know how your luck is after your trip though i will be down there the end of june and any advice would be good.

I'm used to fishing for them in rivers but not lakes,so any help would be apriciated. We will be fishing from a boat. Just like to know some good baits for this time of year on this lake.

I will be visiting Memorial weekend. Last year was good for sight fishing for bass. The water was 72-80 over that weekend. I'm guessing this year we'll see a different lake condition and probably more fish on beds. It seems the warmup has been slower this year. Anyone with information on current surface temperature would be helpful.
